Arroyo in 'business as usual' mode after frenzied polls

A MalacaƱang senior official on Sunday said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is set to discuss investment priorities and funding with her Cabinet on Tuesday before leaving for a series of trips to Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
Cabinet Secretary Ricardo Saludo said Mrs Arroyo is scheduled to meet the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) board to review the 2007 Investment Priorities Plan (IPP), the funding of projects for 2008-2010.

She would also look at strategies of revenue-generating agencies to reach target collections for the year.

Saludo said the IPP, whose approval has been delayed since March due to the campaign period, is a list of sectors that would be given emphasis and incentives by the government for the year.
He said the President will also list down the projects under the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP) and the Public Investment Plan that would be funded in 2008-2010.

He said Mrs Arroyo wants the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Bureau of Customs to at least reach their target collections, following a shortfall in the first quarter. He said the President is worried that another shortfall would lessen investors’ confidence in the country.
“Trabaho na. Tapos na ang halalan. Tuloy-tuloy na sa
paglilingkod-bayan (Let’s go back to work and let’s serve the people. The elections are over)," he said.

He said he expects Filipinos, including lawmakers from the opposition, to “work tirelessly and selflessly for the nation’s advancement and betterment."
Presidential political adviser Gabriel Claudio said he also expects the newly elected opposition senators to be “responsive" to the President’s call for harmony and cooperation to promote national interest.

“They know that they were elected not to bicker and engender political tension but to promote effective governance and help improving the lives of our people," Claudio said in text message to reporters. - GMANews.TV
