Malaysia went down fighting 1-3 against Singapore in the women's team final of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Jaipur yesterday.
Beh Lee Wei gave Malaysia an unexpected 1-0 lead, beating Sun Bei Bei 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 5-11, 11-8. But Wang Yuegu drew Singapore level with an 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, 5-11, 11-8 win over Ng Sock Khim.
Singapore quickly reasserted their dominance when their third singles player, Tan Paey Fern, beat Chiu Soo Jiin 9-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-8.
Yuegu clinched the title for Singapore, beating Lee Wei 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-4 in the reverse singles match.
Singapore also won the men's team gold medal, beating India 3-0 in the final. Malaysia settled for 10th spot, losing 2-3 to South Africa in the classification playoff.
